Hyatt's IPO

Hyatt has filed its IPO, visible online here through the SEC. It will take awhile to go through the whole thing. As one initial note, here's what Hyatt CEO Mark Hoplamazian would get if fired. For him, financial security is promised in advance, signed into a legal document, and far more than he will ever need to survive. Compare this to the housekeepers who are fighting just to be reinstated at a living wage. Yesterday's rally downtown was a good start, and it was awesome to see the signs people had put up in windows opposite the Hyatt building. We need to keep the pressure on. "and severance if his employment were terminated by us without cause or by him for good reason prior to a change in control, or by us for any reason within twelve months following a change in control or in contemplation of a change in control, equal to:

** One year base salary;

** Target annual incentive for year of termination multiplied by the percentage payout of his annual incentive in the prior year;

** Pro rata annual incentive for year of termination equal to his target for such year multiplied by the percentage payout of his annual incentive for the prior year; and

** Full vesting of his SARs and RSUs granted in 2006."

Hyatt treats its managers pretty well

Said one Hyatt VP:

“We are thrilled that Hyatt Hotels & Resorts is being recognized for its ongoing efforts to attract and reward new employees,” said Randy Goldberg, vice president of recruiting, Hyatt Hotels & Resorts. “We work hard to create a family-like environment, in which our associates can thrive and feel proud of their accomplishments and company"

No joke -- Businessweek recognized Hyatt as "Best Place to Launch a Career". Here's the article. The date is September 10th 2009, not even two weeks ago! Clearly it doesn't apply to the fired housekeepers (and certainly not to the HSS minimum wage staffers who are replacing them).

It's interesting that Hyatt spends $7500 on the Hyatt training program for each new manager. While the company boasts about the amount it spends training new managers, less than two weeks later they claim that due to the economy they cannot afford a living wage for those who clean the toilets.

I'd encourage anytime to read the media reports on what occurred at Hyatt, and then read how it's a great place to work (for managers).

Lots of visitors, more work for Hyatt's PR department

A couple of days ago there were just a few signatures from around Boston about the Hyatt layoffs. Well, the visitor map from Google analytics lit up overnight, and from the map it looks like news of Hyatt's mistreatment of longtime housekeepers is growing.

If you haven't already, take a moment to watch the story and you'll see why.

Copies of the petition will go daily to Hyatt CEO via email daily for as long as we're getting new signatures, also via snail mail and fax occasionally.
